“The Most Memorable Event in My Life”

The most memorable event in my life is to see the King of Thailand. The King of Thailand, Bhumibol Adulyadej, is the world's longest-serving monarch. Thai people really love and admire him. Because he is such a distinguished and beloved king, all Thai people wish we could see him in person at least once in our lives. This chance came to me when I met him coincidentally. It is a great event in my life that I will never forget.

One night in June 2006, I had a stomachache and needed to go to see a doctor badly while my friends and I hung around a park in Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand. So my friends took me to the nearest hospital called “Sirirat Hospital”. While we were in the hospital, we heard that the King came there to see the doctors. As soon as I got treatment, my friends and I hurried to go to the exit door of the hospital in order to wait to see him. For his safety, we were not allowed to get too near the exit so we all sat on the sidewalk on the street opposite of the exit with some people who heard about it and would like to honor him too. We had been waiting for him from 10 PM – 1 AM. Even though it was a long time, late, and I still felt sick, no one gave up.
Then the King got on a car and left the hospital. We were not disappointed when we saw him. He sat alone at the back of the car. He turned on the lights in the car so that people could see him more easily. The car drove past us very, very slowy. Then the King waved to us and gently bowed his head to almost every single person standing at the street. I could not believe that he looked into my eyes.

Our King would never ignore Thai people no matter how he was because he knows that Thai people love him and are happy to see him. Tears burst out of our eyes when we saw him. We all called out loudly and powerfully, “LONG LIVE THE KING”, to honor him. Until that moment, I could not believe that I met the King when I only wanted to go to the hospital. It is the most memorable and honorable event in my life. I dare to say that I love him so much that I could die for him. I believe that many Thais feel like me because he is not only a king but also the nicest person in the world.

Bhumibol Adulyadej (Thai: ภูมิพลอดุลยเดช; IPA: [pʰu:mipʰon adunjadeːt]; Royal Institute: Phumiphon Adunyadet; listen (help·info)) (born December 5, 1927), officially styled "the Great" (Thai: มหาราช, Maharaja) and also known as Rama IX, is the current King of Thailand. Having reigned since June 9, 1946, Bhumibol is the world's longest-serving current Head of State and the longest-serving monarch in Thai history.[1]Although Bhumibol is a constitutional monarch, he has several times made decisive interventions in Thai politics, including the political crisis of 2005-2006. Bhumibol has been widely credited with facilitating Thailand's transition to democracy in the 1990s, although in earlier periods of his reign he supported military regimes. He did not oppose the September 2006 coup which overthrew the elected government of Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.Bhumibol uses his great wealth to fund numerous development projects, particularly in rural areas. He is immensely popular in Thailand, and is revered as a semi-divine figure by many Thais. Critics, mostly outside Thailand, attribute this status to the suppression of criticism of the monarchy.[2]Bhumibol was born in the United States and educated primarily in Switzerland. Bhumibol is also an accomplished musician, artist, and sailor. He is one of the wealthiest people in the world and has received many honours.
